Online
Thursday 18 September 2025
09:00-10:15am
This session forms an integral part of the SPP Conference programme, providing a wide-ranging legal update on recent and upcoming decisions of significance to the pensions industry. Delivered by an expert panel, the session will explore the practical implications of key decisions and their impact on the schemes you advise.
Speakers
Karen Mumgaard, Knowledge Counsel, Slaughter and May
Karen has been a pensions lawyer for over 30 years and is currently Knowledge Counsel at Slaughter and May. She has in depth knowledge of not only current pensions law but also how we got to where we are. She is a past editor of both British Pension Lawyer and International Pension Lawyer and has contributed to several textbooks on pensions and trust law.
Andy Cork, Partner, A&O Shearman
Over the last fifteen years, Andy has advised the trustees of some of the largest UK pension funds on strategic and technical matters including risk reduction, scheme funding and regulatory compliance. He is highly valued for his ability to translate technical pensions law into practical strategic advice for both trustees and companies.
Jeremy Goodwin, Partner & Head of Pensions, Eversheds
Matthew Masters, Trustee and Employer Advocate, Spence & Partners (Chair)
Matthew is an experienced Scheme Actuary, corporate adviser and professional trustee with experience in pension scheme management, investment consultancy and risk mitigation. While considering a career as a lawyer, consolidating three sets of pension Trust Deed and Rules into one was enough to put an end to what could have been an appearance on the panel!
