Joanne Tibbott, Head of DC, Gowling WLG (UK) LLP
Listed as a “Next Generation Partner” in The Legal 500 UK rankings for 2022, Jo is a partner in Gowlings pensions team and brings 18 years’ experience, advising trustees on all aspects of pensions law. She leads thier DC Excellence team and chairs the firm’s independent governance committee.. Her clients include two industry leading masters trusts including the Scottish Widows Master Trust and the hybrid scheme of an investment bank with DC assets of almost £2 billion, the NFU Mutual Pension Scheme (with DC assets of almost £1 billion).
Emma Douglas, Wealth Policy Director, Aviva
Emma Douglas joined Aviva in October 2021 as Director of Workplace Savings and Retirement business, with the accountability to deliver the best possible outcome for over 4 million customers/members and their £81bn of assets as they save for and access savings in later life. Emma is also the Chair of the Pensions & Lifetime Savings Association; having previously chaired the PLSA’s Policy Board since 2018.
Before joining Aviva, Emma held the position Head of DC at Legal & General Investment Management, where Emma was primarily responsible for developing LGIM’s DC business and Investment Strategy. Joining LGIM in 2014 from Mercer where she held the position of Partner and Head of Mercer Workplace Savings. Previous roles in Emma’s career include the Head of DC Sales at BlackRock and Head of DC Pensions at Threadneedle Investments.
Richard Birkin, Partner and Head of DC Consulting, Isio
Richard has over 25 years’ experience advising trustees and sponsors on all aspects of DC. This includes policy and strategy development, governance, member engagement and change.
Richard has led on many of the biggest DC consolidation and change exercises in the UK market to date, has a deep knowledge of the of providers’ DC offerings, and has led the due diligence on a number of investments and acquisitions of DC vehicles.
Paul Tinslay, Professional Trustee, Dalriada Trustees
With 37 years in the Pensions Industry Paul has the very rare, if not unique experience of having been a specialist pensions Independent Financial Adviser, a Corporate Pensions Adviser, Scheme Secretary, Pensions Manager and Professional Trustee.
In 2018 Paul was invited by the DWP to assist in transposing the IORP II requirements into UK legislation, amending the Pensions Act 2004, which introduced the requirements for Trustees to operate an Effective System of Governance (ESoG) for DB and DC pension schemes.
Paul also worked with the Government Actuary’s Department to introduce the original drawdown legislation in the Pensions Act 1995, and helped develop at/post retirement pension products with a number of providers and post retirement DC investment strategies with fund managers.
